My old Intel card does not give me the ability to use desktop effects on a regular basis without becoming very sluggish after less than an hours use even with the xorg 1.10.2 upgrade so I want to replace it with another card.

Any suggestions for a new card that will work with this version of xorg.. My computer which is 2 years old is capable of using PCI or PCIe cards. The above card was transplanted from an older computer so it is older than the computer..

Looking to be able to enable 2d and 3d effects..

MLUs Forever!

My attitude would be ......  check out NVidia and make a short list of the cards I can afford.

Then try to select the one that is best value.

PCIe is definitely the way to go, IMO.

+1 for an NVidia card.

I just installed a PNY Nvidia card -- great card for what you are looking for.
Here's a link to NewEgg:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133356

This card is currently on sale with an instant $10.00 reduction and a $20.00 mail-in rebate.
Nets out at $49.99 with free shipping.  Offer expires 6/30/2011.

This is not a serious gaming card.  But for great graphics and desktop effects its ideal.
Be sure to register it on PNY website and they extend the 1 year warranty to 3 years at no cost.

Custom built by me less than 2 years ago. Originally had the ATI card but it went belly up so I put a spare card in which turned out to be Intel. I don't even recall how long I had the card or how old it is.. It is a PCI card..
