I found and read this, but it was of little use to me as none of these options seemed to have any meaningful impact.
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=29186
So I reduce my res to 1280x1024 as it looks best on my monitor. Awesome. Even at that the icons and text in the kickstart and classic menu are very small, and kind of straining on the eyes. The one option that 'worked' made the icons look like extra large in 98se running 640x480.
So...IS there a way to get something between itty bitty eye blazing icons and Icons for the legally blind? And the font?

Hi LSeraphim,

create a new user and check if the problem is the same there. If so, we should look at your video driver.

Please provide some information on your video card and settings (driver chosen).

One thing that may possibly work - but fonts could be a bit too big - is to go to:

Configure Your Desktop >> Common Appearance & Behaviour  >> Application Appearance >> Fonts

And set the Force Fonts option from 96DPI  to 120DPI

This screen also allows you set font size and type.

If you are trying to change the icon size in the menu goto:
Configure Your Desktop > Common Appearance & Behaviour > Application Appearance > Icons
Goto the Advanced tab
Select the small icons
Click the Size window (select what you want)
Apply

But from what he wrote about the resolution I thought there might be something else wrong.

Yup - sometimes its a tad difficult to pin down when icon and text size is discussed.

The display should be set to the native resolution of the monitor ........  what is that resolution?

After that is done the other things can be changed to suit the user.

The native resolution according PCLin is 1600 x 1050 @ 50hz. This doesn't work for me. The resolution should be set to whatever a user is comfortable with.

X is working fine, it picked up my card and lcd just fine this time which I was super happy about. I like the 1280x 1024 for a host of reasons. Does what it is told without a crapload of permission power struggles on all user accounts.
I really don't know what the obsession is with having ultra hi res, lower refresh rates and tiny screen elements. That's another topic though. In it's native res the launchers icon was roughly the size of a pencil eraser. The menus, even smaller.
Now, running at 1280x1024 @ 85 it looks exactly how I want it, except that both in the kickstart and classic menu the font and icons appear to be about 8pt and 16x16 respectively. I do few things on Linux so I would prefer to have larger, easier to see and navigate elements in my menus. That's all.

I am not trying to sound dickish, Im just at work, a little ill and have no time..ever.

We will then agree to differ.

The monitor should be run at its native res for best results.

The size of what is displayed on it should be adjusted to suit the user.  Wink

So here is a screen.

Take the more applications item up there for instance. I would like that, and the text next to it to be about 50-75% bigger here and/or in the kickoff. They are currently about 80% the size of my mouse cursor, which makes navigation super awkward.
The settings under common appearance only change the size and such of items inside the file browser and what not.
