New KDE install. Printer was previously working. All Cups and Foomatic seem to be installed. When I went to PCC I got no printer installed When I tried to go to Cups I got:
Quote
The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:631.

Printer connection is Parallel. Printer is Samsung ML-2571-N

Going to terminal I get "lpstat: No destinations added". Does that mean nothing seen on LP0?

Quote
[roj@localhost ~]$ /etc/init.d/cups status
cupsd is stopped
[root@localhost roj]# /etc/init.d/cups start
Adding loopback device to routing table ...
Starting CUPS printing system:                                             [  OK  ]
Re-enabling disabled print queues:
[root@localhost roj]# /etc/init.d/cups start
Adding loopback device to routing table ...
Starting CUPS printing system:                                             [  OK  ]
Re-enabling disabled print queues:
lpstat: No destinations added.

Just a thought. In PCC > Security > Set up your personal firewall, is CUPS server checked?

No firewall. Turns out Cups wasn't running but that didn't solve it. See my edited post above.

OK I checked the printer using a Remaster. It was seen in PCC and printed just fine so it must be something in the setup of this install.

Never could get PCC to set it up but was able to in Cups. Also Cups seems not to be starting on boot though I have it checked in PCC. I haven't really tried the last though more then a couple of times.

PCLinuxOS: A revolution in personal computing

« Reply #5 on: June 19, 2011, 05:42:01 AM »

Ha ha, I was trying out the latest "test" iso, and it couldn't find my printer. Thing is I had installed it before on the same iso, then re-installed to test something else. After several minutes scratching my head, I checked for my scanner, as it's on the same external hub (the back of my computer has 6 sockets for 7 devices Sad ) and it wasn't there either. I unplugged the hub, then plugged it in again.

You can guess the rest.....
