Good day. Sorry for my bad English - it's not my primary language.
I'm want avoid writing bunch of CD for simply giving some people chance try and chose different flavor of linux. So i find this manual http://pcquest.ciol.com/content/enterprise/2005/105070101.asp and make bootable DVD with almost all PCLinuxOS livecd images. But i can't make this thing to work - no matter what PCLinuxOS i choose in boot menu it load first live image in list.
Because i'm new in live CD/DVD making i need some help with this.
Here is isolinux.cfg from this multiboot DVD (maybe i did something wrong with him)
Code:
default LiveCD Enlightenment
prompt  1
timeout 90
ui gfxboot.com bootlogo
label LiveCD Enlightenment
    kernel vmlinuz.enl
    append livecd=livepenl initrd=initenl.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD Enlightenment Mini
    kernel vmlinuz.ell
    append livecd=livepell initrd=initell.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD KDE
    kernel vmlinuz.kde
    append livecd=livekde initrd=initkde.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD Gnome
    kernel vmlinuz.gno
    append livecd=livegnom initrd=initgno.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD LXDE
    kernel vmlinuz.lxd
    append livecd=livelxde initrd=initlxd.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD XFCE
    kernel vmlinuz.xfc
    append livecd=livexfce initrd=initxfc.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent
label LiveCD Enlightenment - No Boot Splash
    kernel vmlinuz.enl
    append livecd=livepenl initrd=initenl.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=verbose
label Enlightenment Video safe mode - VESA
    kernel vmlinuz.enl
    append livecd=livepenl initrd=initenl.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent vesa
label Enlightenment Safe boot
    kernel vmlinuz.enl
    append livecd=livepenl initrd=initenl.gz root=/dev/rd/3 acpi=off vga=normal keyb=us vmalloc=256M noapic nolapic nopinit vesa
label Enlightenment Console
    kernel vmlinuz.enl
    append livecd=livepenl 3 initrd=initenl.gz root=/dev/rd/3 apci=on vga=788 keyb=us vmalloc=256M splash=silent

I can't help but I hope someone can because I think it would be great to have a DVD with all the various flavors.

Hello Steb and welcome,

At time of boot the right kernel and initrd image are used, but at subsequent mount of the root filesystem '/', all kernels will use use the same root fs.

From the posted info it's not clear the layout of the DVD, but probably it contain a directory for each distro, inside each directory a copy of the respective liveCD;
this means that the name of the root filesystem, for all PCLinuxOS distro used is always the same:  livecd.sqfs;
when kernel is started, will search for the file livecd.sqfs and will load the first it find.

Hope the above make sense.

Steb,
please verify: mount your DVD iso under /mnt:
mount -o loop dvd.iso /mnt
then try:
find /mnt -name livecd.sqfs
post the result, so we can understand if this is the real issue.

Hi Steb,
That does look interesting. But implementing it is way above my knowledge level.  Grin But I'll stay tuned--to learn.

If it proves too difficult, would a viable alternative be to make a remaster of an installed system that has several DE's installed as tasks? Meaning that, from the installed system you can log into any of the DE's installed by tasks, without rebooting or installing. I never heard of that configuration on a live-cd, but it seems it would work. I don't want to derail your thread, it was just a thought in case you could create what you want in a simpler way. I imagine it would run faster in that you would basically stay in the same environment, whereas to run a livecd instance within a live cd environment, it sounds unweildy to me. But I am not an expert.

Good luck & welcome to the forum.

Using PCLinuxOS Live USB Creator, you can put more than one version of PCLinuxOS on a USB stick.
