It's foolproof. Well, at least it was proof against this fool.

Sometimes late at night, when the brain is shutting down for the evening, I do something foolish like last night, updating all my packages at once without even doing the Nvidia drivers first (like I've had to do in the past) and doing the E-17 while in Enlightenment contrary to Tex's suggestion. Don't know why I do these things, but I got the seg fault he mentioned, some of the packages didn't download from the repository (minor ones it turned out), and when I rebooted the machine, it wouldn't boot, gave me a list of error messages. Duh! Then I went into safe mode, couldn't do anything from there because I'm too much of a noob, and rebooted again into normal, and I'm happy to say, somehow, it's all systems go. Now obviously ymmv, but I in my half asleep, no common sense state of mind made a pretty good try at screwing up the installation, but I'm still up and running, despite it all. So all I can say is wow. You guys must have a done a great job.

Yup. You certainly have to appreciate the variety you get, as well as the learning experience.

You were very lucky. But I'm glad you're up and running. Some users on KDE are getting hammered!

Archie,

I think he means "How was I lucky?"

In what way are they getting hammered?

I think Archie is referring to the latest x.org update which is causing issues with some users.

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

Ah, I see. Well if it makes them feel better, sometimes when I boot up now, I get a kernel panic and have to reboot. But then again, since I like E-17, I expect to get seg faults on a semi-regular basis anyway.

As for being lucky, that goes without saying. I'm relying on luck most of the time and somebody else's knowhow, because whatever side of the brain gives you computer sciences aptitude, I got the other half working.

Well, let's just say that after kernel panics and reboots, and segmentation faults ... and you are still booting to your Enlightenment desktop ... how LUCKY you are to be using PCLinuxOS.

@menotu ... yeap ... touchpads, kwin effects, working/not working on old video adapters, etc. I'm sure Tex will have all these issues ironed out with the next ISO.

Heh What's life without a little adventure? Picking E-17 as your DE is like bull riding for geeks.

OMG!!!  I've never even barrel raced in official events, let alone tried bull riding... I thought e-17 was one of the coolest, easiest desktops to get around.. Kind of like haute ecol (dressage) ..  Grin Grin
