Searched here about HP mini 1000 and about no USB boot option in BIOS.  Don't know a thing about netbooks. Kid has HP mini 1000 running XP. /1g RAM /60gb HD. I have heard *buntu has been installed on this but more familiar and prefer PCLOS(LXDE maybe)

Never done a USB install however that may be moot as BIOS shows only one boot device priority option - Toshiba HD (either on or off ).

1. Does the "off" imply the ability to boot from USB?

2. NOT under boot device priority menu, there is an "internal network adapter boot" option (currently disabled) which implies a network installation which I have never done. Is this possible w/PCLOS?

Thanks

[UPDATE] See I told you I knew nothing about netbooks. Rebooted with a random data USB drive and it shows up in BIOS -  Roll Eyes

Any experience with PCLOS light desktop on these? Apparently broadcom wireless chip requires BIOS upgrade from Broadcom. Hope not. Don't want to brick the little thing!

I guess now that the boot from USB seem more likely, anyone done a PCLOS install? on this HP mini 1000?

Thanks

Trying to figure out the same problem with a HP Mini 1000 with Windows 7.

a hp mini 1000 is identical to any other netbook i have used

there should be a messagen on boot to press F2 or F10 to enter in bios and F11 or F12 to show boot menu

in the boot menu there should be listed any usb device connected like a external cdrom driver, usb flash drive or any other external device connected that could be used to boot, also the hard disk of the netbook

ooops sorry, got hung up with something else. The boot from USB does not show up until something is actually plugged in. I just let it boot until boot options are shown on screen AFTER POST, then you can hit Fx (can't remember which) but arrow down to USB and there it is.

Good Luck
