I don't know if it was Dolphin or ???, I do have Gnome as an alternate desktop on this install and was logged on for a while with that as a desktop using the hover feature.  I logged off, and back on again into the KDE desktop without a complete shutdown, but I don't know if anything used in Gnome would 'hang over' into the KDE desktop.  I'd like to know more about using Nautilus but don't want to risk screwing up my system. Can someone point me to the thread concerning nautilus and KDE?

If I am reading between the lines correctly, the impression I get is that you have task-gnome installed????  If so you already have Nautilus available in KDE.  I have a KDE install on a computer with task-gnome-minimal installed which provides Nautilus. I can run it with Run Command. If it works for you I guess you could make a menu entry or launcher.

i opened the run command and wrote nautilus

it called the app

when i closed it kde4 remained the same

not sure what problems you are experiencing

btw, the feature is nice because it offers a button on the icon, not as old konqueror that just made noise just by pointing the object with the cursor

As part of my quest to solve the issue of previewing audio files in KDE I have often logged off of KDE an into Gnome desktop and then back again trying to discover what allows the feature to sometimes work in KDE. Usually my machine is on continuously from early morning until bedtime at night. That was the case yesterday when I made my last comment. This morning however started my machine and booted directly to the KDE desktop, ran nautilus, it worked as you say, closed nautilus and shazam KDE was still there alive and well. I have an idea that some parts of Gnome may "hold over" when switching back and forth...this may have created the sometimes scroll over preview of audio files in KDE to work and also the mysterious desktop switching that I experienced yesterday.  Thanks again to all who have comment on this thread. I believe that running nautilus from the command line is my best solution to date.

"and shazam KDE was still there alive and well. I have an idea that some parts of Gnome may "hold over" when switching back and forth"

this happened to me some years ago with kde3 doing what you say, logging to kde and then opening gnome while kde was still open but a later updated fixed it so i could do that again

i stopped using two desktops long time ago, i have gnome installed but i don't use it anymore

In all honesty I prefer to use KDE but like yourself I did do "task-gnome" as well as several other desktops before I decided that. I've tried Enlightenment, XFCE, etc and finally landed on KDE.  A lot of my experimentation came on the heels of the change from KDE3.5 to KDE4.x, but I finally decided that KDE would be my default desktop.  The loss of rollover previewing of audio files when KDE3.5 was replaced by KDE4.x motivated my re-examination of Gnome.
