Hello!

I noticed that after the pclinuxos update 2011.05.04 I cannot use my scanner Lexmark x1190. Before the update it worked well.

Before starting the XSane - Scanning I always got a panel to choose the device (Lexmark x1190 and the installed Logitech webcam). After updating this choose panel does not appear.

When I start XSane - Scanning the panels appear but when I click on the Preview button it shows an error message "Failed to start scanner. Invalid argument" I also noticed that XSane - Scanning presets to UVC camera. As if the Lexmark scanner cant be recognized.

Have you tried manually adding the scanner through  PCC - Hardware - Scanner ?

It appears to be listed there ......

Thank you!

In PCC - Hardware - Scanner there is not listed the Lexmark x1190. But it recommends to me setup it manually. Choosing the model and saving it it says that the scanner was setup but the scanner dos not work. It is interesting thing, that I can print with Lexmark x1190.

I tested this scanner with live CD 2010.12 version, it recognise the scanner. It seems to me that the problem is the latest version of Xsane (0.9.Cool and libsane 1.0.22. In the live cd there is libsane 1.0.21.

Could try - if you haven't already done so - installing:

task-printing-scanning

Description:

Task package for printing and scanning. This task package contains the full selection of printing and scanning packages used in PCLinuxOS

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

So the device is x1190 ......  but the lsusb does not mention x1190

Code:
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 043d:007c Lexmark International, Inc. Lexmark X1110/X1130/X1140/X1150/X1170/X1180/X1185

Does lsusb give the same output on the liveCD?
When using the liveCD is it set up as x1190?
Does the x1190 appear in the list in the setup within PCC?

"So the device is x1190 ......  but the lsusb does not mention x1190"

Thank you for the response.

I think in this case there is a member of series X11xx. Both in the Live CD and the installed and updated PCLinuxos the lsusb show the same lines:

Quote
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 043d:007c Lexmark International, Inc. Lexmark X1110/X1130/X1140/X1150/X1170/X1180/X1185
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 043d:007b Lexmark International, Inc. InkJet Color Printer

"Does lsusb give the same output on the liveCD?

1. yes
2. yes
3. no. First the scanner list is empty and ask me to setup the scanner manually. After selecting the Lexmark X1185 (this is the highest number) and save it, ask me that USB scanner is found.

I think it would be better return to libsane 1.0.21 instead of the actually libsane 1.0.22 version or to wait for the next version.

Yes, I can see what you mean .......  but wonder if something else may be at play .....

It is strange that setting the scanner up as x1185 in the liveCD allows the x1190 to be 'seen', but doing the same in the updated install does not.

Do they have similar kernels?

A quick scan of the internet postings indicate a lot of people having difficulty with both the printer and scanner in that device.

In case of live CD it was not necesary setting up the scanner. With live CD I can use the scanner without seatting up anything. So thats why I think that the problem comes the newest xsane and/or libsane versions.

I tested the PCLinuxOS 2011.5 beta iso, where in the live CD there is the older libsane 1.0.21 package and my scanner Lexmark x1190 can be detectable and is working. So I think the libsane 1.0.22 version have bug. I am waiting for the final PCLinuxOS 2011 version.

I managed to solve the problem wit an older version.

Download this zip package: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11568016/oldsane.zip

With root privilege copy the files into their folder as they are in the package.

Reboot your computer and test the scanner

It works for me with x1190.
