HP f4235 printer after Software Update: hplip-3.11.3a-1 ( SOLVED )

My HP f4235 all in one USB printer is still not using the black ink cartridge .

I removed the printer - rebooted - then set it up again.

hplip has been updated to version 3.11.3a based on the most recent Fedora source rpm. I remember that sometime ago, have found on internet some suggestion related to a bug affecting some config files, related to black ink,
if I remember correctly there was a setting that, by error, was ColorCMY instead of ColorCMYK.

Would you check in your config files under /etc/cups, if it's still the case ?  suggested command to search for:

grep -ir ColorCMY /etc/cups

You are not the only one Ramchu.

I heard about this problem before.

Here is a thread on Polish PCLinuxOS Forum.

I guess I would wait and see what's gonna happen in the future OR install fresh on second partition. Configure printer. Upgrade fully. See what happens.

It could be a silly conf file.

My printer is called F2180 (it's working fine - well it should - havent bought ink cartridges for months now ) but the generic name is F2100 series... Possible same scenario here.

Deleted my printer and my PPD files - Rebooted

Then I used the cups web interface to install my printer
and all is as it should be.

I followed your comment on my thread on my HP Officejet Pro 8500 losing the scanner using the new system-config-printer.  Using the cups web interface, there were two choices, a cups and an hplip option.  I installed the hpcups 3.11.3a choice and the test print was still not using the black cartridge (the black text was grey), but xsane did pick up the scanner function.  I deleted this installation and installed the hplip option, and the test page was correct... Yea!!   But.... I lost the scanner function.

Any ideas??

I have a Epson V350 scanner which doesn't  work anymore either.  I'll try reinstalling the scanner software to see if that fixes it.

Not really sure, but get your scanner working and then open your file manager and click on view then click Show hidden files
find the .sane and the .xine folders, then Rename those folders to something like .sane_old and .xine_old.

Now remove your printer and reboot and then set it up so that it prints properly using the cups web interface, then after you are satisfied that
it is working correctly.
Now go back into the file manager and look for new .sane and .xine folders and delete them then rename the .sane_old and .xine_old folders by removing the _old

Then try your scanner.

If that doesn't work I am out of suggestions .

Thanks but I've already tried to reinstall iScan and the associate package and uninstalled everything previously associated with it.  Having done that I may have borked it even more as iScan rpm won't even install from the d/l package.  After many frustrating minutes I finally took a break and will now try again.  I'll see if anything that existed before is still there and try your suggestion.  If all else fails I do have a mylivedvd backup that I can use to restore everything.  Of course that's a last resort.  Thanks again.

I have it working again even though it seemed like every package installation failed.   ???All is well.

OK guys, I think I've got my issues solved.

I went back to using system-printer-config, deleted all HP multifunction printers installed.

Then I installed a new printer using the 2nd of the three HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 a909a network printers listed in Search for Network printers.  (I'm still don't know why it sees three OfficeJets, I only have one)

I then selected the Cups option for Imaging and Printing.  This got the scanner function to be picked up by xsane, but not using the black cartridge for black text. 

I then ran system-printer-config again, clicked Printer/Properties/Change on the Make and Model line.  I changed it from Cups to Hplip.

Now, the print test has black text not grey, and xsane finds the scanner.  Although, the HP printer icon in the system-printer-config printer list has a yellow "caution" triangle with an "!" in it and complains I'm using the wrong driver.

Hopefully it will stay fixed.
