I've aquired an Acer A110 1GB/16GB SSD with built-in 3G.

It is crying out for one of the PCLOS's preferably E17 but all of them have the same problem.

The 3G shows up in network center - it is an 'Option n.v. globetrotter HSUPA' modem but when you try and configure you get the error message "unable to open device dev/ttyHS" there is ttyHS0 to HS3 in dev.

I have done homework and searched the forum, one bit of info was install dkms-hso but it is not in the repo, all the other stuff, hso-rezero etc was already installed. Installed wvdial on the off-chance.

lsusb shows it as ID 0af0:7211 Option

It is not duff hardware, the 3G connects OOTB in 'another' linux distro.

All advice welcome.

The gui fails with a 'can't find device' error and the commandline produces this

[rich@localhost ~]$ umtsmon
umtsmon version 0.9 .
installing GUI SIGABRT handler
##P1 t=536: Stored device configuration incomplete, reverting to autodetection
##P1 t=536: HSO device, but no /dev/ttyHS* devices found...

##P1 t=537: *** CRITICAL ERROR: No device could be found, the application will close.
If you need more info, please re-run from the command line.

To draw a line under this so if anyone looks at it in the future.

Can't mark this as solved, maybe abandoned.

The can't find /dev/ttyHS error can be solved by making a symbolic link
ln -sf /dev/ttyHS0 /dev/ttyHS

This allows the internal Option modem configure dialog in network center to go a stage further.
The configure brings up the providers list (3internet). Plenty of signal strength showing but it will not connect. Utmsmon still does not see the modem.

The same SIM, same provider, in a ZTE external usb modem, shows, configures and connects without a hitch.

I don't know, so draw your own conclusions.

Have to say, everything else works fine on this Acer A110.
