Hi All,

Last night when I turned my PC off, I had my min/max/exit buttons at the top-right of my windows as per usual. Boot up this morning and they are gone, have no idea why. Tried a few fixes I read about here and now it seems all my compiz stuff is messed up as well. I'm using Gnome and have an ATI X850XT PE GFX card. About the only compiz thing I really use is virtual desktops and would click on the switcher in the Gnome panel to spin between open apps on desktops (using 4 desktops) now I no longer get the spinning cube, although it is checked in the settings, and if I use ctrl-alt-arrow button I get the spinning cube but my open applications disappear and I have to click on the icon in the dock to find it, then it spins to the desktop it was on and it's there again

I did not install or update between last night and this morning so I am at a loss as to why this is happeneing and have no idea how to fix it as everything I have seen suggested has not worked.

I love Linux, and especially PCLOS, and will keep using it, but this is the kind of thing that is frustrating not only from a time/effort to get it back the was it was standpoint but it is what keeps me from telling my friends and family to use Linux. People like you and me can make the effort and probably get it fixed, regular users cannot. And I really want to see Linux become more widely used but when simple updates seem to constatly break things in stupid ways, that's what holds it back. And it is so superior to anything else, sans this type of thing, that it is a shame. /rant

Sorry for the rant, just frustrated, thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Have not been using compiz on my PCLOS for quite a while now but have had it installed for a long time, so I just tried using it again yesterday and now I have the exact same problem as #0.
Really strange as it has been working perfect before  Huh

Gnome 3 has no buttons which is what we are moving too as time allows.

I haven,t upgraded to Gnome 3 , don,t intend too, and lost the buttons. I have now switched to Emerald + Compiz to get around this issue and all is well again. Lesson learned, check forums before updating in case of any issues.

Are Gnome 3 packages already appearing as part of updates? Will updating a Gnome install today cause those buttons to disappear?

*edit* Fresh Zen install with full updates today, haven't lost my buttons, wonder why some people are having trouble?

Buttons are "only" disappearing with compiz enabled. As stated above, install emerald and fusion-icon if you are running compiz 3-d. This will return the buttons.

Hi,

I had not checked back here in a little while (had no power for 5 days due to a tornado) but I read some of the replies and I tried all of them yet still I can't get any window buttons with Compiz enabled. What i don't understand is that it worked for months with no issues and suddenly one morning, just poof, no more. So it is obviously not a hardware issue but damned if I know what it is. Is there a driver i should try? Is there a way I can go back to the defaults and start over?

Thanks

I have also just noticed that in some programs all the menus are blank (Specifically Blender and if I click on the folder navigator in AWM dock). They just come up as black boxes. Is there any way to fix this? I am just trying to understand why in the world it just suddenly stopped working.

Am I just out of luck in using my ATI card???

I had that happen to me last night using a different distro but Gnome manager, I have my buttons on the right side of window and I clicked something on the far left side and they disappeared!  Luckily, though, they returned on reboot!  Still don't know what I did!

Guess this topic got a little stale, oh well just noticed it and wanted to chime in.  I've removed my min/max buttons in KDE4 already and prefer to drag windows to screen edges.  I also double click my titlebar for vertical only maximizing.  Love it. Smiley
