The truth is out there ... PCLinuxOS!

« on: April 05, 2011, 08:39:21 PM »

This is an open message to the entire PCLinuxOS community ...

As you know, we publish the monthly magazine in both a downloadable PDF file, and as an online HTML e-zine. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen events, gseaman must step away from formatting and producing the monthly HTML version of the magazine.

We are in desperate need of someone to take over the formatting and production of the monthly HTML version of the magazine. If you have HTML skills and have been looking for a way to contribute back to PCLinuxOS, then this may be your chance. We could use your skills and services a few days out of every month to prepare the monthly HTML version of the magazine.

If you are interested and can assist the magazine staff, please send an email to pclinuxos.mag <at> gmail <dot> com. Galen is willing to offer assistance to whomever is willing to step up and assist with this task. You may also PM either myself or Meemaw, here on the forum.

Currently, neither myself nor anyone else on the staff of The PCLinuxOS Magazine (to the best of my knowledge) possess either the skills or knowledge about HTML to be able to step in and fulfill this necessary role. As for myself and Meemaw, we already have our hands full enough just producing the PDF version of the magazine every month.

Meanwhile, I'd like to give a huge THANK YOU to Galen for doing such a wonderful job producing the HTML version of the magazine over the previous 22 months. You have given us a top-notch HTML version of the magazine.

What I know about html is, at best, dangerous.  But I recommend Sproggy - he just can do anything!!!   Grin

Ok, so I don't know HTML or much of anything else for that matter. Just voicing some stray thoughts from a straight jack wearer!   Grin
I'd also recommend, if possible to get two folks lined up and helping each other in each the various tasks.  Smiley
This might help keep a more even keel when folks have to change.  Wink
Yes I realize volunteers with the necessary skills are hard to find, so let one be a teacher of the other.  Cheesy

This may not be helpful, but if you use LaTeX (a markup language for typesetting technical documents), the documents can be rendered in any output format you like (PDF, HTML etc.) from the same source.

In my (limited) experience it's quite a steep learning curve, but worth it once you get there.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Scribus was enough of a "learning curve." Unfortunately, I don't have the time to learn yet another method at this time. It is a good suggestion, however.

Also, thanks to all who replied here. Sproggy will be taking over the layout of the HTML version of the magazine.
