Sorry, did not make that clear. syndaemon deactivates the touchpad when you start typing, and activates it again if the keyboard is not touched for -i seconds.

-k tells it to ignore modifier keys (control, shift, meta)

This solves the problem of accidentally hitting the touchpad while typing, without turning it on and off manually.

Ok, I know that this thread is *solved*, but I would like to add my solution to the same problem.

Just run (in a terminal or alt-f2) :

synclient TouchpadOff=1


Setting it to 0 turns the touchpad on.

To make it easy for my non-tech family members, I created an icon on the desktop to run this command when they click it.
