Hi to all,
Having done an update today then shutting down the Laptop I now cannot login to user.
error message is:--
Sorry it is not getting that far.
I see that the 'HAL' daemon fails and as to why 'httpd' is being used is a mystery but it hangs at that point.
Sorry for this I am giving up and doing a re-install.
I would like to now why I could not login as the user and why I should have variable booting sequences as I am having??
Re-install is the only answer as far as I can see.

Can't you boot in safe move and start the hal daemon then startx? Once you get to the desktop you can fix whatever you did to break it.

Yes, i installed the MythTV packages!!
I tried Tex's method but that did not work, so i did a re-install and did not install MythTV.
All is now running very well.

That's how I usually do it, i'll post the problem once, but if the first answer is Old Polack telling me to open up a terminal, su to root, and then  fdisk -qwerty chmod grep sed whizzbang runlevel yada zip-a-dee-doo-dah --lollapalooza, I just re-install Wink Cheesy Cheesy

You're gonna have to get one of 'em Old-Polack designer glasses. It selects what needed to be highlighted and color-coded.  Wink
