I'm using KDE... I have desktop effects turned on, and desktop cube animation active...    I have two desktops and when I switch, they roll like a big cube.

With the latest version of KDE, I started seeing a widget with an X appearing near the top right of the screen as the desktops rolled.  It disappeared when the desktop change was complete..  Lately I have two widgets like this..   They don't affect anything, but it's becoming annoying seeing them there every time I switch desktops.   What do these widgets represent and how can I get rid of them?   (Closeup photo of these widgets included below):

It is an enlarged symbol for closing an open window on your desktop.

The settings of my virtual desktops is so, that when I move the mouse cursor to the upper corner, all open windows are reduced in size and placed along the desktop. Hovering with the mouse on the closing symbol of a reduced window will show that symbol.

See attached pic.

Maybe you should reset your desktop to default.

How to reset KDE default destop:

Rename the ~/.kde4 folder.

Go to a terminal (CTRL_ALT-F1)

log in as root

type    init 3

go top you home folder

cd /home/younamehere

do a ls -l to make sure you are in the right place then

mv .kde4 .kde4.bak

type reboot to restart the machine

This should bring you back to the default desktop configuration.
