For you fellow eeepc users I am starting to port the applet called Jupiter. It provides functionality that the eee utilities provide in windows on linux. It is currently only in .deb and set up for Fedora. Hope you guys look forward to it.

Huh

Fedora uses RPM, not DEB, and it's Jupiter is used in Fuduntu (a Fedora respin/remix), so an RPM of it must exist.

I am sorry I meant to say it is available as .deb and a .rpm set up for Fedora. Im an ex-fedora developer so I know the .rpm format all to well. Anywho I have gotten the source going to adjust the .spec file and recompile it. Ill test on my eeepc and let you guys know how it goes.

Hi escapingsummer

Is it based on/or like this app?

Will this support the older (original) Eee (such as the 701)?

As far as I know as long as the hardware could run super hybrid engine in windows it should be able to run Jupiter in linux. I would like to point out however that Jupiter is MONO based so anyone who doesn't like Novell etc please be aware of this. Also for my fellow eee users, I know this article relates to fedora but it's tips and tricks are good for your eee, if you're a noob though please ask around before doing the serious changes to your system.

Just to update everyone, yesterday I didn't work on packaging it at all due to severe weather in my area, I just sat and watched the storms. I have started today and have made progress, I am working on packaging the dependencies which the only .src.rpms I could find are Fedora .rpms, and the only ones I could get to work were from Fedora 10, so I am looking to translate the .deb into a .rpm with alien and see if the dependencies are something available in our repos or Mandriva's repos.

Yeah the storms were pretty...Well I have the package installing correctly now I have to get it to pull dependencies correctly. I should have it up and ready to test by Sunday evening (don't hold me to that) after which I hope you guys will test it for me as I only run Xfce and Fluxbox. If no one else can test it I do have other environments virtualized however that would take some time.

Unfortunately after a few hours of trying to find these dependencies I couldn't come up with anything. The only thing I could do would be repackage old obsolete fedora rpms to get the dependencies resolved...translating to .deb didn't help either because none of the dependencies listed were even available as .rpms....I am at a crossroad right now...

What are the failed dependencies that you get when trying to install the RPM from http://www.jupiterapplet.org?  I'm not at all familiar with PCLinuxOS (other than playing with it for an hour or two a few months back) but I might be able to help anyway since I have heard about this "Jupiter" thing.  Cool
