I recently did all my updates to the new pclos kernel. All went well and ran nicely. I am running An AMD Atlon x 64 4600 socket 939. I install kernel 2.6.37.4-pclos1.a64. What a performance boost. Much faster boot up, opening of apps. Speed and general responsiveness, a marked improvement. So if your using an AMD dual core, give this kernel a try. Sure made a difference to my machine. Cheers all.

I am running an AMD Atlon x 64 4600 socket 939 board myself, and, like you, installed and ran the 2.6.37.4-pclos1.a64 kernel. I found that the PAE kernal boots faster, and the log in screen on the 64 bit kernel was slower than the PAE. Personal choices, I reckon. My machine runs fast, stable, and great on the PAE kernel, and my system monitor sees both CPUs, and I like that.

I think that I would run the latest kernel (2.6.38.8-pclos3) and see how they run on it.

Hi MagicMan & YouCanToo. Yep, i just last night installed 2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae kernel. It does seem even quicker. Some times i think it may be my imagination though ! I run with Cool'N'Quite enabled so the CPU is running  "On Demand". Not that i have to now that i have the Corsair H70 CPU liquid cooling system installed. I also installed a NZXT Sentry 2 touch screen fan speed controller which lets me stop a lot of the fans on this Antec 9200-2 or set them right back to 40%. I do notice that with this kernel when starting an application / program and keeping an eye on the MHz's of both CPU's on GKrellm its quicker to respond and up the MHz to 2400 or whatever when needed. So definably worth giving it a try on yours MagicMan, i reckon. Thanks all. Happy computing.  Smiley  Grin
