Is it possible to install PCLOS Gnome 2010 on a 2003 machine with Intel graphics and sound cards? The PCLOS 2010 iso live disc won't load. The iso  disc was made with AMD processor and Nvidia graphics/sound machine .Thanks

Well,it's a hp pavilion desktop with an ide hard drive, intel pentium 2 cpu .I made an iso disc of pclos gnome 2010 burned with an AMD dual core cpu with a sata hard drive.

When I try to use the Gnome iso disc in the drive of the intel machine,it won't fully load,it starts, I see the gnome logo, then the screen goes black,I see the cursor in the top left,a white line.

How much RAM is in this machine?

I hope that's meant to be 2-512 MB sticks, = 1GB RAM.

we asked for more info, not some details

do you know how many pavilions exist?

please provide exact model number, it must be written near the screen or over/under the keyboard, if not there it should be under the laptop near the serial number of the laptop

the laptop can't have 2 512 kb ram modules, it must be 512 mb modules, so it must have 1 gb of ram, shared with the video card so if it has a intel card you should have around 950 mbs for linux

if it has another video card, the ram used by video card should be different but still should have enough ram for kde or gnome

about the remastered version you mention, no idea what it is or why it gives you problems, i never had a successful remastered version but honestly haven't tried it in many months

don't see the reason to start now, pclinux updates so many things so fast, i don't find it useful anymore

The Hp desktop has enough ram.I've had a full KDE version on it since 2007. I installed the 2010 Gnome on this machine after I dwnloaded it last December, after the KDE 4.5 version mysteriously failed to boot.I had used KDE until then. The new plasma version failed to boot 2x so I quit KDE.

Does it matter that I made the Gnome iso disc on an AMD  Nvidia machine? Is this why it doesn't load on an intel machine?

I have 2007 KDE pclos on the intel machine.I'd just like to have the latest firefox, and the apps i'm used to on the AMD Gnome machine on the Hp pavillion machine, and be able to install some of the synaptic packages.I can't  update the 2007 pclos kde system.

the only possible problem could happen if the kernel was a a64 and the cpu doesn't like it, other than that, no the kernel can't be blamed

not sure if the video card driver could be a problem, someone with more knowledge will have to report here

I believe the Gnome is 32 bit.I believe you're on to something with the video card driver.I don't have a video card installed, but the video driver is an intel ,and the distro iso was made with a nvidia machine.

pclinux only exist in 32 bit mode

the a64 kernel is just a implementation of some advantages present on certain amd and intel 64 bit capable cpus, nothing more

Hey ecoalex,
It is not very clear at which point your boot hangs.
If you hit esc as soon as the graphic screen appears you can see the text responses as they load.
Could give some hints as to your problem.
IMO, If the remaster was made on a machine with nvidia then there could be an issue on an intel graphic box. but I am a dummy about the booting procedure.  Grin But you already have some top brains at work here (not me!)

I did get the disc to load,I did install. Then when I hit esc key by accident I the screen went black. No way to bring it back.I tried a reinstall, this time I was able to load the iso and now when the esc key is stroked,I don't have the screen go black. The 2nd time was a charm.
