Hi! I'm new to pclinuxos, and I have been using openSUSE for quite awhile. I am currently using LXDE because its my favorite graphical environment.  The only thing that I see different is my graphics card driver.  The card I am using is an ATI x700 Pro which has a proprietary driver, but is outdated and only works on older kernels. Most linux distros that I have seen have an open source "radeon" driver that comes with the initial installation. This is the output when i type "lspci -v | less"

Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV410 [Radeon X700 Pro
(PCIE)] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Device 2302
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
        Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Memory at fdef0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
        I/O ports at ee00 [size=256]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at fde00000 [disabled] [size=128K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>

01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV410 [Radeon X700 Pro (PCIE)] (Secondary)
Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Device 2303
        Flags: fast devsel
        Memory at fdee0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=64K]
        Capabilities: <access denied>

Most of the time, it says "driver in use: radeon"(Something like that)

Thanks!

hello and welcome to the forum!

i'm sorry, your question is?

not sure what you want to know?

that card is covered under pclinux control center/hardware/configure video card/graphic card

in there it is probable that it is already using radeon x1950 and earlier

this is the best driver for this card atm, ati dropped support some years ago

if you have transparencies and 3d, you should be ok, the performance could be inferior to what you get with the amd proprietary driver but this at least lets you work with most stuff
