For network check in
PCC (Configure Your Computer) Network & Internet > Network Centre > Configure
that you have "Start Connection at Boot" ticked.
Sound
Go the main KMenu > Sound > KMix and it will start. Then open Systray Settings > Entries and check if the KMix entry is set.
Synaptic:
Open Konsole and enter
#synaptic
if it doesn't start post the error messages here.
One thing you can check for Synaptic is do an Ctrl + Esc and see if Synaptic is running - i.e. it wasn't "released" from memory (but that shouldn't occur on a fresh boot)
Once you have Synaptic open you could try reinstalling it.

Okay yim - good luck.
If you have no joy with KMix starting you could try reinstalling kdemultimedia4-kmix (and restart your desktop) and see if that helps.

How long after desktop do you wait before reconfiguring network? I have to wait about 10-15 minutes then it connects with no intervention from me. I posted earlier about it but no one had a solution. A new install didn't help. Testing with an older remaster I connect even before desktop so it seems to be software not hardware.

thanks for all the suggestions guys, being trying something different, installed pclinux gnome and had it working pretty good, left for a bit and got home this evening and booted up and as soon as I launced firefox got a black screen with a thousand line temperature is critical. I powered off immediately and rebooted without starting firefox , opend up sysmon and notice gvsfd-trash was idleing at 80% then started firefox and same thing happened this time I noticed that nautilus opened in tray 50 times. I finally got it stopped. So now I'm in the live-usb kde. So is my hardware crapping out or is something else at hand. Aggrevating as (bleep!) but might as well laugh. live seems to run ok with either version. Installed and it's a different story.
I do have pclinux installed on 3 more machines and only one gives a hiccup when launching gparted , so I'm thinking that my ECS motherboard is to blame. Always have trouble with sound on this thing I love the performance when it performs, lol.

remove nautilus-actions. 3.1.0 is BAD.
