I don't normally bother with mirrors but tonight I happened to notice that http://ftp2.ie.freesbie.org/pub/pclinuxos/does not appear to be in the current sources list. Did it fall through the cracks? A cursory glance would indicate that it is up to date. Maybe it is just an alternative access point to Heanet? ...... just confusing myself

Just18 looking through the Main page, #1. , Software Mirror Status Report; kept up to date by pinoc, and looking through my very own sources list, which is current ... I see as you say no mention of hxxp://ftp2.ie.freesbie.org/pub/pclinuxos/ I am running PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2011.09. ('xx') inserted to protect the innocent. Have to admit I tried to help, 'ftp2.ie.freesbie.org/pub/pclinuxos/' does not 'ring any bells', I use the '.ch' mirrors. The sources.list can be attended to in the New Year; I think from my own observations, there may be a little confusion afoot on your end Just18. It's New Year's Eve in Australia, good excuse to let confusion pass and and go celebrate Just18, get in early I don't drink while driving a car, or using a Computer. ( I hope the Mods will allow my important warning for the holiday season. )

Hahaha ..... what a mix up!
with the 'ie' in the URL and the Heanet response I had understood it to be in Ireland.
It can make a difference at times ...... I would likely get better connections to an Irish site than an Italian or US one.
Anyway it is added, which is all that matters.

I couldn't find anywhere else likely to post this question, so feel free to harass me appropriately if this is the wrong place...
I have been having problems with the "Update Package Sources List" script, in that almost all the mirrors fail out. No other net access difficulties (I'm posting this over the same connection.)
Has anyone else seen this?

go back to the original post and try Option 0, 2, or 3. Preferably Option 2. -p.

if you mean that you can't find any update, don't worry, there haven't been any in a few weeks.
But it seems they will pick up again shortly.

I had the same experience. I found this thread because of your post. I didn't realise there is a new list of mirrors.

I got the sources.list the other day for my desktop system using apt-sources-update -w and it did a great job. Today I used the option 3 for my new laptop and got the following result:
[eb@localhost ~]$ chmod u+x getnewsources; ./getnewsources /bin/rm: cannot remove `index.html': Operation not permitted
Internet connection working
/bin/rm: cannot remove `index.html': Operation not permitted kdesu(6678)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::PtyProcess::exec: [ /root/rpmbuild/BUILD/kdelibs-4.6.5/kdesu/process.cpp : 293 ] Running "/usr/bin/su" kdesu(6678)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::SuProcess::ConverseSU: [ /root/rpmbuild/BUILD/kdelibs-4.6.5/kdesu/su.cpp : 259 ] Read line "Password: " kdesu(6678)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::PtyProcess::exec: [ /root/rpmbuild/BUILD/kdelibs-4.6.5/kdesu/process.cpp : 293 ] Running "/usr/bin/su" .......... ..........
Which of course results in failure. How can proceed to fix this?
ebvt
Edit: I typed my favorite repo from the desktop into the laptop Synaptic repository section as elsewhere suggested. Works ok!

there is an old leftover... Open a terminal as normal user and enter: /usr/bin/su -c 'rm -f /tmp/index.html* /tmp/inet.log*' then run getnewsources again. Or use Option 2. -p.

Hello pinoc. Since you are already in this thread, if I may, I would like to ask you a question off topic. I guess I could have sent you a private message but this topic may interest others.
To the point. I searched for a thread on this but did not find one.
The torrent for the Full Monty is not downloading for me. I just wanted to know if this was a known problem, or is the problem on my end.
Thanks in advance for any help you may give me. joechimp
