I have tried 3D effects with both Compiz and KDE. I have just recently installed and upgraded my MiniMe system. During the LiveCD, 3D support was unavailable, but I proceeded anyway since I wanted a MiniMe installation. Perhaps X.org is the culprit? What sorts of modifications would you propose me make to my X configuration?

On one of my installs, I think I ran into the same problem....

When I changed mine from 'Intel 810' to 'Intel 810 or later',  3D worked for me. I have no idea what the difference is between the two, but you might try that....

Already thought of that. Before reading this reply, I had switched my status from "810 or later" to the mere "810" and X.org gutted itself. I've fixed all of the mess (oh what a mess it was!). Now I'm back to square one....Does anyone have any more ideas? In the meantime, I'lll see what I can do via X.org configurations.

I posted something about this a while back.  Lemme see if I can find it.

Compositing crashes desktop

If you have an Intel-based graphics chipset you will find that anytime you enable compositing with KDE 4.5 your desktop is going to crash. This is because the Blur plugin does not yet support Intel chipsets. You can resolve this issue by simply disabling the Blur plugin. To do this follow these steps:

Click on Start > Computer > System Settings
Go to Workspace Appearance and Behavior >  Desktop Effects > All Effects
Uncheck Blur
Enable or start compositing
Now you shouldn’t have any issue with compositing crashing your desktop.

Don't know if this is the problem but it's worth a try.

I knew as soon as I saw your reply, that it would work. You see, this is all my fault for switching to GNOME after 4.4. Had I been following KDE activity as I had in the past, then I wouldn't have had this issue. Thanks.

Spectrum,

Glad you got your problem sorted. Would you please go back to your first post and amend the title of your original post to include [SOLVED] as part of the title? This will help others who may face this same challenge in the future.

Thanks!
