I have a strange bug the sound does not work when playing flash videos in kaffeine and mplayer. The sound did initially work then suddenly died whilst playing files in mplayer. The media players will play audio ok, the system sounds work and video works in firefox ok. I tried alsa config and reloaded alsa mixer to no avail.

Any help greatly  appreciated thanks in advance

I'm going to post a new thread because the same thing happened to me but on PC hardware with Intel sound hardware.
My problem was sound was ok with KDE system sounds and KDE apps, but no sound on any app that did not use the KDE
sound server e.g. VLC, firefox, mplayer etc.

This was my solution, go to the PCL control centre, hardware then sound.
See if Pulse Audio is enabled, if not enable it and reboot, post back if this works.

Hi I tried enabling Pulse Audio still the same. Firefox works OK this bug appears to be some sort of system bug as it occurs on E17 and LXDE as well as KDE.  Huh.

What the message from the terminal/konsole?
Start mplayer in a terminal/konsole
Code:
mplayer $HOME/<VIDEO>
change <VIDEO> in the name of your video.
If your video in a folder called downloads so add
mplayer $HOME/downloads/<VIDEO>

Other files will played with kaffeine?

Your video file should played without any errors under pclos, means "video file is correctly"
