I've tried everything I can think of, I've searched the Internet till my finger tips are numb, but still I can't completely disable the screensaver.

I've been running the Phoenix Edition xfce 4.5.1 from a USB drive on a Toshiba Satellite. Everything works as expected except the screen goes blank after about 10 minutes.

At first I went through all the Linux settings and disabled the screensaver and power management funtions, but the screensaver would still activate. Then I went through the package manager and removed everything that looked remotely related to either the screensaver or power management. Still the screensaver would activate.

I've gone through all the bios settings and nothing there appears related to this problem. If I boot XP I can turn off the screensaver and it stays off but not under PCLinuxOS.

This is a major problem for me and I cannot continue to use PCLinuxOS if the screensaver cannot be disabled.

I'm having the same problem. I even removed xscreensaver in synaptic with no luck.
This is a recent problem which showed up after the update I did yesterday.
I'll keep looking for a solution and let you know if I find something that works.

It seems that VLC seems to activate the blank screen saver for some odd reason.

If anyone has any suggestions, thanks in advance.

on further investigation, the process manager shows multiple instances of xdg-screensaver* (/usr/bin/) running (about 20 or so).
I shut them all down and then cp'ed it to my home dir then rm /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver

we'll see if that works...

There's nothing in the process list that remotely relates to a screensaver. I'm not familiar with all the various Linux process but there were a few that have the character string *acpi* in the process name. Perhaps these are related to the problem. Even if I kill them and that solves my problem I have no idea how to keep them from starting on reboot or what unintended consequences might ensue.

This is what's running, if anyone sees something that shouldn't be there let me know, and more importantly, how to get rid of it!

Sorry to hear my suggestion didn't work for you... but then
I'm running KDE which could be the difference.

Question, do you even have the xdg-screensaver file in /usr/bin/?

if its there try what I did anyway. It could be that the process starts
and then shuts down with activity??? Just guessing but worth a shot.

What I did has fixed my problem so far. VLC been running a loop
for over 6 hours now with no problems.

El Gallo del Cielo you are the "man"!
The xset did the trick. No more pesky blank screen every 10 minutes. Crossed fingers, legs, toes...
