lobster,

0.96.5 is the current version in the repo. If you found a newer version, please suggest an update as described here.

You can find this sticky as well as other examples in the Package Suggest section of the forum.

Thanks

Hi Torsten

I not intended to make a new request for adding what i found out, but to ask why when i open Help on and clic on Update, the response is that there is a new version and that the one i have has already an old virus definition (0.96.5). I have a dual Boot with Windows XP and use to receive also emails with content that i want to check for viruses to have a clean environment, sure is generally in Linux not a problem  about viruses, but in Windows.

Hi lobster,

So you are having trouble updating just the virus definitions?  If so, this might help -
Open the file /etc/freshclam.conf (as root) and look for a line, it is probably line 6 or so, that has "Example" in it.  Comment out this line by placing a "#" in front of it (without the quotation marks).  Save the file and see if it updates now.

I may be wrong, but do not try to update anything but the virus definitions.  When there is a new GUI update, it is done through synaptic and not the program.

Hope this helps.

Hi nixer, i had follw your instructions and found just only the following 2 lines :

# pass additional options to freshclam
FRESHCLAM_OPTIONS=""

there were no Example in it.

Okay lobster,

My file has a lot more in it and once I commented out line #8, which contained "Example" in it, it started updating.  I read this from another forum post.
