I read the introduction to the new PCLosOS-FullMonty in the forum,
downloaded it and installed it on my new laptop, replacing an openSUSE
installation.
Congratulations to Tex and his team for this excellent piece of work.

My new laptop is an ACER ASPIRE 8943G with Intel Core i7-720QM, 64 bit
processor.

Everything works fine, except this: There is sound output at the build-in
speakers, but there is no signal output to the external port for ear phone
or external amplifier. This is not a hardware defect, because it worked
earlier with openSUSE installed.

Any idea on how to change the configuration to make this work would be
highly welcome. Thanks.

Did you check everything in KMix?
(configure channels >> make channels visible, active and at the loudest possible volume???)

In kMix there are only 2 channels visible: Master and PCM.
Both are set to maximum output. They work, but only on the
build-in speakers, no output to headphones.
In addition there are 2 "available channels": Capture and Digital.
There can not be made visible, at least not on my system.

There used to be plenty of functions, channels and switches
available on kMix during the old KDE 3.5 days. Where are they
all gone? I wonder.

If you open KMix, you can right click in the window, and select 'configure channels'
=> there you can make many of them visible (I hope so, else mention it here)

I can see the page "Configuration of the Chennels"
On the left is "Available Channels" with Capture and Digital,
on the right is "Visible Channels" with Master and PCM.
There is no way of moving an entry from one side of the
form to the other, also not by right clicking.

Strange, as it should work by just selecting a channel (left mouse click) and keeping the mouse click held down and then dragging to other column.

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

Thanks very much!!
How stupid can one get? (i myself)
I tried everything to move the entries from
left to right, to no avail, but I did not try
just pulling it. That part worked.
However, there is still no output to the
headphones/amplifier port. I am just
waiting for the next version of the software,
should be available sometime next month,
hoping the bug will be fixed then.

If I may suggest a few basic things to check:

From what I could find on this model, it uses some sort of RealTek chipset for sound (but they're kind of vague about exactly which one), and it is capable of 5.1 channel Dolby output from its audio jacks, so, maybe try another one?

Do the built-in speakers mute when you plug in your headphones, or do they keep playing?  If it's the latter case, you're definitely not in the right spot.

One question:  does it have really have a built-in subwoofer?  I bet that sounds pretty good for a laptop, huh?

Later On,
D

Possibly, that are again jacks with each of them having multiple functions  Roll Eyes
Just try some of the jacks (if the music doesn't stop playing on the built-in speakers, you can try another....)

@horusfalcon: my laptop also has a built-in subwoofer, and yes, the sound is not bad when you're in front of it (don't think the whole room can enjoy marvelous music)
