Hello...newbie here...

I have a fairly fresh installation, I used the 2010.12 ISO. I was able to make an update around the 2nd week of January and I think some of them were OK... despite the apparent problems with the ibiblio servers at that time.

So now it's February and I'd like to run some updates again. I did what old-polack wrote, i.e.:

2. There is only one working repo currently available, so you need to set up Synaptic to use that repo.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,86168.msg719016.html#msg719016

3. Once you have the proper image installed and have Synaptic set to use the ibiblio repo, you need to select, in order, Reload --> Mark All Upgrades --> Apply, then Apply again from the confirmation window.

... but after clicking on "Reload" the following message appears:
Code:
Could not download all repository indexes

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of
network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be
used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection
and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

I didn't proceed with "Mark All Upgrades > Apply > Apply" because I'm not sure what the above message means. Could someone explain please?

Thank you.

May be your internet connection temporarily was down or for some reason blocks ibiblio address.
May be the server had temporarily problems at that time.
Try one more time but don't accept any changes if you are presented with error messages.

Also check if you filled correctly

@uncleV

Below is a screenshot of the repository settings I made. Please check if it's correct:

One more thing... after I click "Reload", it will proceed to the "Downloading 1 of 11" (sometimes it's "Downloading 1 of 10"(?)) but will still produce the same error message I posted earlier. Forgot to mention there's a box that says:

Code:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.main: Could not resolve 'distro.ibiblio.org'
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/release.main: Could not resolve 'distro.ibiblio.org'
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.updates: Could not resolve 'distro.ibiblio.org'
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/release.updates: Could not resolve 'distro.ibiblio.org'
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.nonfree: Could not resolve 'distro.ibiblio.org'

^^ sometimes there are 5 lines, sometimes there's just 1 or 2.  Huh ... and then it's followed by another error message box, saying:

Is the problem from my end, or the server's end? Are you also saying I shouldn't proceed with "Mark All Upgrades > Apply > Apply" if I keep on getting error messages?

Yes of course it seems filled correctly. Smiley
I didn't update till now so I can't share my experience.
Let's wait for the experts to come. Wink

I meant if an error message appears while downloading and it suggest to proceed on or not you don't accept.

Are you able to open the link in the browser (just click)?

@uncleV

Yes, I can open the link < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ >

And yes, it's also the only repo I checked from the list.

Looks like I need to be more patient... until I get no error messages, I suppose.

@Neal

I did the above and then restarted my computer. I then proceeded to "reload" again from Synaptic. Result:

...It seems I can't even get past through the downloading of the first file of 11 (10).  Sad

Btw, I tried using the repo batti3004 suggested: < http://ftp.ch.debian.org/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/ > -- I got no error messages while "Downloading Package Information"!!  But I didn't proceed because of old-polack's reply (hasn't been updated since 10Jan).

HOORAY!!! This made it all dandy!

Have to say I changed the DNS settings on my router (it was still problematic when I set it on Network Center > Network Settings) and I used Google's servers (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4).

THANK YOU, old-polack and PCLinuxOS community!!!
