Hello there.
Just installed pclos 2010.1 on my
p4@1.8ghz-asus mb-512 mb ram-nvidia vanta graphics-80gb seagate.
Worked like a charm

Then I went ahead and did "synaptic->mark-all-upgrades->apply" and went for a cup of coffee...
Now after a reboot, the darn thing won't boot. It hangs different places in the boot sequence. Situation is the same in boot-safe mode...
I suspect the new kernel or something else were a bit too much for my old box

Any input, help or advice would be deeply appreciated.
TIA - Regards Benny
There are a number of problems apparent here.
1. You should be installing from the
2010.12 image, not 2010.1.
2. There is only
one working repo currently available, so you need to set up Synaptic to use that repo.
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,86168.msg719016.html#msg7190163. Once you have the
proper image installed and have
Synaptic set to use the
ibiblio repo, you need to select, in order,
Reload --> Mark All Upgrades --> Apply, then
Apply again from the
confirmation window.
4. No new kernel is installed with any upgrade. If a new kernel is desired, it must be
manually selected, along with it's proper
devel package, and installed in a
separate action from any other upgrade or installation procedure.
5. On
first boot after a new kernel is installed, it will take
longer to boot than normal, as any
dkms modules will have to be
rebuilt to work with the new kernel, during the booting process.
