Nope. Not current. The article that is cited is from 2006.

I used to do PayPal as well but had no trouble to switch to Google Checkout and I'm in the Netherlands. My only gripe is that it does not allow you to define the actual size of the payment - you choose between multiples of $25 which then works out to funny numbers in €€€€'s
What we do offer as a service to our Dutch and Belgium based PCLinuxOS forum participants/users is that they can use E-banking to pay a forum moderator who will then send the money via Google Checkout (in the past PayPal). That may be an option in your country as well although I have to admit that that too, was impacted by the move away from PayPal - the amount donated may vary from the amount transferred - I therefore try to bundle multiple donations whenever possible.
Not optimum, I suppose, but as long as the money gets to Tex i'm happy!

CNet comparison of GC an PP: Is that current? I used it two days ago, "shopping" in the US from Germany. Worked flawlessly. They left out PayPal will lock your account for any little reason and will keep your money if they don't like your answers.

I confirm that the google method works for payments from Australia. It was a bit clunky, or maybe that was my typing! Response was fast.

I don't like putting my information online under any circumstances .
So I mailed my donation to Tex today via US Postal Service (snail mail ) .
Takes a little longer but it will get there .

It seems like there are a wide extreme of experiences when using PayPal. For my self I have been using them for over 10 years and never had a problem like others have expressed.

Do you do online-banking or do you still walk into your bank for every transfer you do? Your data is on the web somewhere anyway. Does your social security, power works, local government, etc. have your bank account data? Did you ever pay anything anywhere with your credit card? It's important to watch your steps when paying online, but I guess that Google or Paypal have a lot to lose and will keep a better eye on your data than any small comapny could or would. When paying by credit card online, I always use a card with a small limit and always the same one, so it's easy for me to keep track of my online payments and quickly see if anything gets lost. Last saturday they stole the server of our district office. Guess where all that data goes? And that is data which you are obliged to give away... I don't have statistics at hand though if it's more likely to get robbed on the street or on the net nowadays.

Hello all,
I had read on your page "all people need update and will use (for donation) your pass server".
That's not a good idea to say this.
As i write to Textar, i have used your "creation" from version 0.92. But never i would give, why .... GOOGLE !!!!
I have give, with pleasure ... for about 1 week ... only !
Why ? the answer is GOOGLE !!! This was not a pleasure.
I think, your can have more donation, with other way ! It's pearhaps not simple for you but ... we have too our proper considerations.
I am not sure to donate in the future if i have not the possibility to vote for a payment where i have trust.
I aplaud on the very good work of Textar and his team, but trust on my payment (donation) in very important.

I too have used Paypal for a while, almost 6 years I guess, and have ran as much as $8000.00 transactions through with nary a hitch, they are pretty much the only banking institution I halfway trust. Only had an issue one time when buying gas one day, paid at the pump with my Paypal debit card and Exxon decided they needed to put a 500.00 "block" on my card, got home and found this out, called Paypal and 15 seconds later the block was gone from my card with a note added to my account that no gas station or any other merchant was ever allowed to put a "block" on my card again. The service has been superlative, when I get a payment, there is no waiting period for funds to clear, it is immediate, I can go to the ATM and withdraw it immediately.
Google on the other hand....ran up several hundred dollars of fraudulent charges on a business I consulted for (and warned not to use their pay-per-click scam), and it took that business months to clear up and get Google OFF their bank account (Google continued to debit their account every month despite them dropping their scam too, and took another two months of fighting and letters from lawyers to make them stop).
YMMV. This is just my experience with them.

Hi herve49 and Dragynn Some people have problems with google, some with paypal, .. .I have problems with computers, things seldom go smoothly. I used google a few days ago for my contribution and I am still solvent - I think(!) The payment took several attempts and I was thinking about having to make a packed lunch, go to the bank, wait in line, hand over cash to buy an overseas bankdraft, put it in an envelope, go to post office, wait in line, buy a stamp, airmail to Texas, all very boring and a process I have not used for decades. One advantage is that you can send any amount - $24.76 or $55.21 or whatever, you are not limited to multiples of $25. However when the google system finally worked I was relieved. I suppose, now having contributed, I could cancel my google account. Next year will be reconsidered when the time comes. (sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof). cheers. .
