Would some one be so kind as to tell me how to turn up the volume in my speaker? I wish to try this before I try running a terminal to try to get sound. THANK YOU for your time and consideration.

what you have tried, for example push the volume up and down buttons on the keyboard

We need to know what desktop environment you are using.

If KDE then click on the speaker icon in the system tray and then click on Mixer.
What happens then depends on what sound card/chipset you have but you may have to click on Settings->Configure Channels and move some things from "Available Channels" to "Visible Channels" to get the slider controls to show.

If you are using KDE
click on the volume icon in the system tray check if the volume slider is pushed to the top
you can also click on mixer to open the mixer window
then you can click on settings and configure the channels and/or select the master channel

this may or may not solve your sound issue

Still can't get the sound going in E-17 on my Toshiba Satellite L455 notebook. I tried to find the thread that was started back some time ago. I tried turning up the volume but nothing. Any one got any other ideas? If I have to run a terminal could some one please tell me what to type in layman's terms as I am technologically challenged? THANK YOU for your time and consideration.
