Its probably been moved out of the testing section therefore you should be able to install it as normal.

I don't use E17 therefore not sure whether you need to restart your desktop after the install.

Disable composite and dropshadow modules, enable ecomorph module then log in to the e17-ecomorph session from gdm.
Make sure you also got ecomp installed.

I did all that.   Still no go.  When i bring up Ecomorph, I can untoggle it, the hit apply.  When I toggle it on and hit start, it appears to launch, then the screen goes black.  I'm left with a mouse cursor.  I have to do a Ctrl Alt Backspace to get back to GDM.

Oh - I took that comment to mean that you weren't using the testing section and that it was coming through on Synaptic which was why I surmised it had been moved out of testing.

For ecomorph to work compiz (3d) must be disabled in PCC.

I'll check that!  Hopefully, it'll clear the problem.  In fact, I'm hoping it'll clear the problem in KDE 4.5, too.

But, given the fact that I've learned from folks up here that the NVidia 6100 video card is a bit long in the tooth, I'm not holding my breath.

No matter.  Without desktop effects, the various DEs still run rings around Windows!:)

If compositing doesn't work in kde it also wont work in e17. Sure you enabled the proprietary driver from nvidia?
Can you give me the output of following command in a terminal?
Code:
glxinfo | grep direct

I don't have Compiz instaled. it's not listed in PCC

Try logging in into the normal enlightenment session in gdm, in the menu go to settings/Ecomorph

In the ecomorph settings window check the button next to Ecomorph mode and click Apply below to window. For some gfx cards the special session fails.

I'll try that now.
