I checked the repo and everything under "Compiz" is shown as not installed.

Open configure your computer/ click on hardware/configure graphics and enable 3d effects. It will download all the stuff it needs.

I've looked and as I recall  it appears I don't have that option. All I have is configure graphic card option.  I'll have to double check while in front of my laptop.

Do I have to install compiz Fusion in order to get this option in PCC?

i remember there was a task-compiz or task 3d or similar

you can install compiz and it will cal alot of other stuff, also install fusion icon and all compiz related stuff, around 10 packages when doing a search for compiz in synaptic

after installed open pcc/hardware/configure 3d desktop effects/enable 3d

for this video card is possible that will work better with nvidia proprietary drivers, can't remember ho to do that

Whoops.Smiley Just re-read this post.Smiley  So, I DO need to install Compiz.  if I'm reading htis correctly, select any "compiz" in the repo?  and all others will be properly selected?

WOW! I just installed compiz and the laptop in KDE 4.5  is like night and day! 3D!

Now, just figuring out how to spin the cube. It's been a while since I used Compiz.

"WOW! I just installed compiz and the laptop in KDE 4.5  is like night and day! 3D!"

yes, i believe that a great portion of people complaining for kde4 performance is because they used kde desktop effects and found it incomplete and slow

"Now, just figuring out how to spin the cube. It's been a while since I used Compiz"

to spin the cube is ctrl+alt+left click

to unfold the cube is ctrl+alt+down key

Do I also need to install extra and main plugins? I found these in the repo:

comiz-fusion-pugins-extra
compiz-fusion-plugins-main

And perhaps emerald-themes?

emerald themes is useful if you will use emerald as window decoration, if not it won't be useful

i use it(emerald) but i create my decorations or modify others i download so that package has no use for me

the main should be installed and extra is just that, extra, install them and see if something is useful for you

the unsupported are good too but sometimes won' work or will crash so i don't install it

I just installed main and extra.  Wow!  Now, to get the cover switch enabled.

I'm assuming because this is enabled in PCC,it's system wide and will work with LXDE, etc.

Gonna check.Smiley

afik compiz is friendly with kde4 and gnome, others will give you different problems, i think that xfce doesn't use it yet but i could be wrong

e17 won't work with it enabled

If you use multiple workspaces in KDE with different backgrounds and settings, they will be borked by Fusion/Compiz. That is why Compiz is declaired incompatible with the KDE Full Monty DVD.
So, with multiple workspaces you have to choose for your 3D settings, Fusion/Compiz or KDE desktop effects.
But do not switch between them or you lose your settings.

Happy 3D playing Wink
