PCLOS/KDE 2010.12.  Installed a GeForce8400GS/HDMI,DVI,VGA, running off the VGA.  Now, it will not play streaming sound from the internet, youtube, etc.  Everything worked before with my SB Live! and onboard video. In Hardware, it shows two soundcards! I have system sounds, but not the others.  How can I eliminate the video/sound card and use only the SB Live!?

Try running "alsaconf" as root in a term. Pick the sound card you want and follow the steps..  See if that helps.

I did what you suggested and still cannot "choose" between which sound card will be the one.
"alsaconf" tells me that there are two cards, and it only gives me the choice to "configure" one, which
it does automatically, not giving me the option to "unmark" the one that I do not want.

your video card has a sound card, not really, it has a bridge to sound card, system sees it as a second sound card making things confusing

the sound blaster is not the problem, there is a couple posts talking about this problem, related to modproble.conf

can't find those posts about blacklisting the hdmi soundcard  Sad

Yes, that is what I need, a blacklist of the nVidia sound.  But why would everything work using system, but when I want to listen to an internet radio station, all I get is silence?

Search the forum for   hdmi   and you should come across a means of disabling the sound on hdmi .....  maybe this thread .....

Thanks for everyone's help.  Read an old text from Texstar, from December, about editing /etc/modprobe.conf.
I "blacklisted" the hdmi sound on the video card, now everything is working as before.
