Thank you for a job well done.  I've been a KDE user since I started using Linux over five years ago, and budding frustrations with Kontact and system resource hogging (probably more due to an archaic display server than KDE's fault) have made me venture to try something else.  Most distros do not spend a lot of time with a quality XFCE implementation, but PCLOS has been awesome.

It's been 24 hours, and I am still a little twitchy and missing my KDE, but i am determined to give this a try.  The Oxygen GTK 2 theme makes it a lot easier.   Grin

GermanTux, I'm a lot like you.  I gave Windows the old heave-ho from my computer 6 years ago this month.  Like you, I started with KDE (Mandrake was my first introduction to Linux) but am now a PCLOS Xfce user.

I would like to also add my thanks to Joble, Kori, Texstar and everyone else who helps put Phoenix together. It is a very nice implementation of Xfce -- and a pleasure to use. I hope all of you know that your hard work is appreciated.

I have found myself becoming more of an Xfce fan (although I still use KDE 4 and enjoy it). It's ironic that I didn't really discover Phoenix and Xfce until after I got this LinPC box, which has plenty of oomph to run KDE fast ... Go figure.

I haven't yet tried out the test release of Xfce 4.8 but I look forward to seeing it incorporated into the regular updates, when the time is right. (I'll also hope that there isn't too much of a learning curve).

@GermanTux,
In case you don't know about it, be sure to check out the special compilation issue of PCLinuxOS Magazine devoted to Xfce:

http://pclosmag.com/index.php/downloads
"Gtk Lightweight Desktops: Xfce & LXDE S.E."

It has lots of good info for Xfce newcomers.

Ironically I just converted from Mandriva KDE.  Been two whole days now, and I am a little more comfortable.  I just wish there was a way to convert all my data from Kontact...  Who knows though, if Kontact/KMail2 is finally finished, and a KDE distro is released with Wayland down the line, I will probably go back.  But for now, Phoenix is treating me great.  I just sent in my donation.

My first distro was suse.  It worked pretty well until the "dark days" of Suse 10.x.

I won't even think about using Suse after their deal with Micro$haft in November of 2006.  In fact, I like PCLinuxOS so well that I don't have any plans at all to change distros anytime in the foreseeable future.

Yah, I have always been a huge fan of PCLOS (I only switch to Mandriva after KDE 4.1 was released), and used to use it back in the days of PCLOS 2007-2009.  But I am too much of a tinkerer not to experiment :-p
