Easy ide external drive caddy

This device did at one stage work in pclinux2010 however the Hard drive is almost full on this temporary setup.
The old PC has pclinuxos2009 and will not detect it at all. I need to transfer most of the data from the 2010 setup and also the contents of a windows drive so that a full setup can be installed with a total formatting.
Any ideas?

transfer 2009 contents to 2010 external or viceversa?
use a 2010 livecd and move the files
