I want to install PCLOS/Gnome. I already have XP Pro/PCLOC/KDE on my hhd and want to add PCLOS/Gnome. If I understand right I can use Gpart from  P/KDE on hhd or P/Gnome LiveCD, partition the hhd with another 150 gb PCLOS/Linux Partitions and install P/Gnome there. Now one thing I am not to sure about is will I have to run Repair MBR after??? Or should P/Gnome, after install and reboot have put the correct info in the MBR???
Thanks  Oh, I've only been at this a whole 6 days!!

pclinux gnome is the same pclinux kde but uses gnome and not kde

if you want to have gnome in your system open synaptic and search for task-gnome

this package once installed will add a complette gnome desktop, you will be able to use it from kdm screen(where you put user and password)

it will be a option to load as graphical desktop

you don't need to install many times to have all the desktops

the way described you can add lxde, xfce4, e17, icewm and other desktops available on synaptic, just look on the tasks section on synaptic

When you install you have options where to install grub, but first.....

I remember my first attempts at partitioning and installing multiple OSs.  If I had it to do over I would read, read, read.

Old-Polack has posted several great tutorials and tips about all this.  Use the forum search and gather all the info you can so you fully understand what's going to happen.  There is plenty of help here if you get stumped along the way.

In summary, when you add GNOME (task-gnome) to your current PCLOS install, you will be able to use GNOME. Before you login with your username and password, select SESSION and choose GNOME. And when you login you will be in GNOME desktop environment.

I hope that made sense. Wink

Let us know how it went for you. But you'll be back with KDE (I think).

b) FullMonty-light: install only the basic FullMonty desktop layout and its tools (in Synaptic search for and install FullMonty): the idea of FullMonty-light is to give the user a light-weight FM without the need to download a 4GB iso. In addition, the user can customise the FM-system by setting up his/her preferred applications
