Forgive me if this has been discussed already.
Does there really need to be an entirely seperate forum site for PCLOS Gnome discussion? I would think a section of this forum, like it used to be, will do. Are GNOME users outcasted from the PCLOS community at large? Are GNOME-related testimonials not welcome on the testimonials section of this forum?? That's the underlying message it sends to me, when PCLOS GNOME has its own board, and you dont see much gnome discussion here.
The Gnome users, being in a minority, asked for a separate forum to be set up, so it would be easier for them to find PCLinuxOS Gnome specific information, and help, without having to sift through all the KDE specific information.
PCLinuxOS from the start has been KDE centered, and the official release still is. All the other DE releases are community efforts, some by a single person, some by a small group. What they have in common is the stable PCLinuxOS underlying system. The users of those alternative DE versions have chosen to post in a special section of this forum, rather than a separate forum. If they wish that to change, because of a major increase in users, they are free to set up an alternative forum, as the Gnome users did. We who administer the official forum do not dictate what sections are available, rather provide a platform the majority of the community agrees upon. We add sections and remove them, mostly by member request.
If a requested section, for whatever reason, attracts outside troublemakers, as did the
Other Distro Discussion section, we reserve the right to remove that section, to maintain the generally friendly atmosphere of the community as a whole.
All of the administrators/moderators of the forum, excepting
Texstar, are regular posters to the forum that have been
drafted/shanghaied/pressed into service. None of us has asked for the job, and we are free to choose not to accept the position, or abandon it later, if real life situations dictate that need. I'm sure I speak for the entire staff when I say we consider it an
honor to serve, and a chance to give something back, in return for the wonderful OS we've been provided.
The
PCLinuxOS Magazine staff are all volunteers, regular community members also wishing to give something back, to improve the overall PCLinuxOS experience. So too it is with the
packagers, who volunteer their time to help
Texstar keep the repository up to date. We also have wonderful
script writers that have given us some very useful, and exclusive, tools to enhance the usability of PCLinuxOS. Again, all community volunteers. There are no dictators here. Just friends, working together, to help make PCLinuxOS the
best distro available.
We think we've succeeded.
