Comparing and merging files from different folders

Hi all,

I have surged the forum, Google, and Synaptic but not found a solution to this:

Over some time I have backuped one and the same folder several times, so I should have a lots of duplicates on my "backup" drive. Now, I'ld like to get more serious about backing up using a backup software (BackinTime, DejaDup, or LuckyBackup, not sure yet).

Therefore, I'ld first like to eliminate all the duplicates and sync with my current /home folder to be sure I won't lose anything that is only on the "backup" drive but not in my /home.

Could you think of simple solution? Is there "an app for that" ?

Or should I opt for a CL solution? Which command could find duplicates?

for example. It can be used to reclaim disk space and fix other problems
like file naming issues and bad symlinks etc. It includes a GTK+ GUI as
well as a command line interface.

fdupes is also in the repos maybe worth a looksee....

Found fdupes in the repos and running it on the external hard disk.

Will see what the output is and take it from there.

I'll also check FSlint, just found a lenghty german article about it. I guess it might just be what I'm looking for.

Unison is the best sync tool I have used for this purpose. It is in the repos.
