Hey all,
After a long hiatus, I'm back and again will be using my trusty Sony VAIO with PCLinuxOS for all my computer needs. It was left in a condition that it hasn't been updated for (gosh! I think it might be a year or more) a while. It is still running on 2.6.33.4-pclos1.bfs and my widget still list KDE as Development and QT is at 4.6.2. What have I missed? And more importantly, can anyone point out any stop signs before I do a full update? One thing I learned from this forum is to be logical about this sort of thing. I am holding back on a full update because I do not want to hose my perfectly good-running PCLinuxOS install.
Any pointers is appreciated. And it is good to be back @ again.
Regards to all my friends here ... you know who you are. Know that you've been missed.
Archie.

humor us, open the terminal, log in as root and then execute these two commands, select "NO" when asked on the second command to stop the update if you get that far. The advise you will probably get is to download a most recent installation media and start from there and then keep on updating your system atleast once a week or once in a couple of weeks.
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

Your installation is over 3 months old therefore it would be best to backup your important documents and install from a freshly baked ISO. In fact, I just took a batch out of the oven yesterday. They are gui hot and delicious. http://www.pclinuxos.com/?p=1114Welcome back. We missed your crazyass.

That looks yummy indeed. I suppose the time it will take to reinstall apps I use would take just as long if I have to update. And as always, anything on my /home would be extra toppings on the KDE holiday delight and might only cause minor disruptions (gz, there's a hole in my stocking)?
Merry Christmas, Tex!
Also, thanks for your quick draw, muungwana.

Merry Christmas, Archie! Are you still in China? Yeap... and the funny thing was it felt so much like I've returned back home to this miserable, snow-laden, frozen city. It's good to feel pain on the joints of my fingers caused by the minus 20 degree C temperature.
