Installation:  PCLinuxOS 2010.10 'full' E17 release, on an original Asus EeePC 4G, equipped with 2GB of RAM and a 16GB SDHC card, partitioned as follows:

sda1 (4GB, ext3) - /
sdb1 (6GB, ext3) - /usr
sdb2 (9GB, ext3) - /home

Problem:  Machine hangs at the 'login:' prompt, about one out of every five boot attempts, and fails to proceed beyond that point.  The only 'workaround' so far seems to be to perform a 'hard' shutdown with the power switch, and then to subsequently re-attempt the boot.  Could anyone please suggest a proper solution to this particular problem?

Yet another one having problems with e17 on eee. I have an user on the dutch forum facing the same problems, still don't know if it is related to eee-control or if it is a pure e17 bug.

I have removed the eee-control package completely though, and yet the problem persists.  I am wondering if it may perhaps be more of an ACPI issue with the earlier EeePC models?  Although the eee-control app did have at least partial functionality on the 701/4G models previously, whereas now it apparently has none at all - what has been changed, since last year?
