I just upgraded my system and now an application I've had running [since I installed PCLOS on this machine - called CARDSCAN] under WINE no longer works.

I get a little pop-up window that says: Could not start CARDSCAN because an internal Error, 1159, has been detected; file:umisc.c, line:327

I am running PCLOS Version 2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs fully upgraded to the repo's as of 12-6-2010.

WINE version is listed in Synaptic as version 1.2.2-1pclos2010

I am running a 3 GHz P4 w/ 2 GB memory (Gateway E-6100),  NVIDIA GeForce 6200 AGP video card.         yeah... its old!

Try to make a new user account, and install the application there in wine... if it works there, it's a problem in your current user configurations of wine...

The most simple thing to do then, is removing the '.wine' folder in the home directory of your user, and a reinstall of wine via Synaptic.... Then install the application again...
(the .wine folder has to be removed, because wine also has a register - like Windows  Undecided - it's not possible else to run as much applications as they do now  Smiley )

No go !
I am unable to run uTorrent after this upgrade.
I tried removing .wine and installing wine but it doesn't seem to work.

This seems to be a KDE bug. I have another installation of E-17/XFCE, there uTorrent works.

May I ask, why are you using wine to run uTorrent, when there are plenty of good torrent apps (Ktorrent is excellent for one)?

Another good opensource app for torrent downloads is transmission, comes with a qt or gtk ui, it's light on your system but provides good functionality.

If you do not want to use native Linux apps, we'll have to solve your µTorrent issue; but I don't know enough about torrents themselves (never used them)
=> did you test to make a new user account (then we know for sure it's nothing in your home-dir)

I did create another user and the result is the same.
I have been using qbittorrent without any problem. I use uTorrent because of the ease and the scheduler that allows me to stop downloading after 8:00 AM, (till which time internet is free here )
Somehow, I was not comfortable with ktorrent, Transmission, I was unable to properly configure it, the downloading would stall sometimes because the internet gets cut-off sometimes, it would not resume etc., I did not have any problem with uTorrent.

Anyway it is not much of a problem, I can log into another E-17 installation and use uTorrent.

I am too much of a noob to explain what happens, I can only tell that it doesn't work.
I could request for a Linux version of uTorrent, but everyone would start telling me to use native application and they are right !
So there.
For all this sometime later, another update might correct this problem.

Regards and Thanks all.

I did a COMPLETE removal of wine in synaptic, deleted the .wine directory structure under my home directory, rebooted, installed wine again and tried the app.   I got a GECKO window to pop up saying it needed to install some other apps which it did successfully.  Everything completed successfully.

I ran the CARDSCAN app again and got the same pop-up window with the exact same error message:

Could not start CARDSCAN because an internal Error, 1159, has been detected; file:umisc.c, line:327    Sad

So this appears to be a new issue with the latest release of wine and its dependencies.

I am sorry, amidst all this, I forgot to give the error message I get :

" It seems like uTorrent is already running, but not responding. Please close all uTorrent processes and try again."

And when I press ctrl+esc, sure it is running ! I can end the process, but launching again it doesn't start.

If utorrent made a linux version, then it WOULD be a native app. But they don't. And no one can just make one. Most torrent apps have scheduling built-in, among other features. You really should try out some of the alternatives, it would save you panicing every time you have a wine issue. Smiley

If memory serves there was an Linux uTorrent in development.

Yup, here it is - http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/linux - BUT it's in Alpha so how usable it is is anyones guess.

With all the good clients already around, I don't see the point, and that was the reason they originally gave for not making one.

Yup I agree we already have some very good ones in the repos, but there are a lot of people who like utorrent (I used it on Windows) and if they could develop one as good as the Windows version I think a lot of people would use it - 'specially newcomers to Linux.

I had an older version of uTorrent in the E-17 installation, I copied it to the KDE installation.
Now it is working !
Probably it is the latest version of uTorrent that is incompatible with the latest Wine app.
Thanks all for reading my post and responding.

P.S. I can't mark the thread solved, actually it is someone else's thread that got hijacked !
I hope it gets solved.
Regards.
