Hi all - I downloaded Compiz from synaptic, but when I open the control centre and click on 'hardware' the only option under 'graphics options' is 'configure graphics card' and there's nothing under that menu about enabling 3D effects.  I have a GeForce 7900 GTO and I'm using the current nvidia drivers package.

Am I just being a remtard??!

Open Synaptic again and look for task-3ddesktop

Then go back to PCC > Hardware and enable it.

You may want to install the fusion-icon if you haven't already done so.

Hope that helps.

Check the menu, More applications>configuration. It would be best to install the fusion-icon and toggle effects on and off from your own user account as menotu stated. I usually prefer not to enable any 3d graphics for the root account in case anything goes wrong with 3d effects.

I never (well hardly ever) go into the root account and I leave it as is. It doesn't need anything setup as its the "first-aid" box for emergency use only.  Wink
