My PCLinuxOS Story

I first tried Linux back in 2001 if I remember correctly ,it was a version of Mandrake .I don't remember the version but I do remember I bought it at a K-Mart store for less than 10 bucks. I thought wow! An operating system for less than 10 bucks !! .Well anyway I loaded it onto an old gateway desktop with Windows 98 and 64 mb of ram. That was before live cd's or a least before I knew of them ,so I did an install .I recall I was amazed at the desktop but being on dial-up at the time I couldn't get on line .I played around a little but shortly after restored Windows 98. Couple years went by and I believe it was the later part of 2003.That I starteded searching the web and learned there were .iso files I could burn to a cd .I had to get a cdrw drive and followed instruction I learned from the web .I tried every linux distro I could burn to a disk. There were things I couldn't do out of the box like listen to some mp3 files,by then I had a high speed connection.I couldn't view flash on web sites .Then I discovered PCLinuxOS ,.93 .been so long and I'm not sure of the version .But I do remember how I could do as many things out of the box as Windows. I soon learned I couldn't run windows games and couldn't run shockwave .(hope that is solved someday).
I was hooked on linux .I couldn't believe an operating system could be so secure to viruses and years later learned there are some viruses that can affect Linux but that not running as root protected me .I learned I would have to give a virus administrative rights to do any damage. Never had a virus I know of affect my system even to this day.I tried every new version of PCLinuxOS that came out but I was Linux happy and tried every Linux distro I could find..And yes I did get caught up in the whirlwind of that "U" distro for quite a while .I soon learned that everything the big "U" could do I could do without modification in PCLOS .
I could go on but my story is probably similar to a hundred others, just wanted to say I'm back with PCLOS and all my machines run it.No more Windows !no more worries .
I've come home to PCLinuxOS and I'm gonna stay for quite a spell . So thanks to the developers and especially "Tex" for the Number one Distro in my heart and in many others. Great work guys.
