Hey there ppl!

I must admit that PCLinuxOS currently is the best distro out there for modern desktops and best part is Tex listens!

I used slackware on my old system but after long waiting I purchased a new system for my shop, as the system was to be used by my dad and others(all computer novice, rather illetrates Cheesy ). I wanted a system that worked out of the box so went on distro hopping...for 2 weeks I downloaded every top 10 distro listed on DistroWatch.com and tried it on my new shiny PC, the 32 bit counterparts were better compared to x64, but since my system is 64bit they didn't work out quite well..some of them didn't even boot properly the others couldn't load proper sound card drivers etc, etc..

Then I tried PCLOS and was amazed at the speed, the KDE look(WOW!!), the System control settings and Synaptic(Good choice over drake).
The system boot-up time was impressive plus it automagically configured the nvidia driver and tuned itself for a good resolution, it loaded the proper drivers for my X-fi card(w/o the need to run alsaconf and stuff..)
All the required multimedia codecs were pre-configured, the wallpaers and themes included looks professional.
Also one does not have to configure multiple repos( and the mess that the update creates) and hence package search and installation is piece of cake! plus I didn't miss any package in repo whether it's proprietry or OSS.

All in all a GREAT distribution which is easy to setup and in LESS TIME! ( I know there are other distros that provide out-of-the-box support like PCLOS does, but they all sucked badly on my system, esp the boot time and kernel panics/various glitches.., my more detailed analysis on distros I tried plus what I mentioned about PCLOS on the first day(well I was little upset since I wanted solution and I didn't have access to forum,so I put that P.S, but  I received a reply from Tex for the mail sent to him and all fine now Smiley ) :

Am writing this after trying and testing it throughly for some days and it really is a solid OS, THE real deal!

PCLOS Team rocks!, I mailed Tex for my forum reg problem and he replied gracefully to both my mails, also he indicated that 64 bit will be coming out soon! YEsss!!! xD xD

Big thanks and Kudos to all the maintainers and developers of PCLOS team!

Hey there to you kapz  - big welcome to the forum.

And yes, you'll be hard pushed to find a more "well rounded" release.

Enjoy!
