Not certain whether this will help you Linuxglider

http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&page=product&productCode=LEXMARK_X2620&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_US&frompage=null#1

It lists:

I personally would go with the tar file and read the Install and/or Readme file which will probably be included once its unzipped.

BTW, you tried the PCLinuxOS Lexmark drivers from Synaptic?

There is one in their named

lexmark-drivers

with a description Lexmark printing drivers fox X and Z series

just in case you haven't yet tried it I would give that a whirl first.

Good luck.

Hi Linuxglider.

1st - This avatar is reserved for Texstar - owner of the PCLinuxOS - its very confusing to see it being used by someone else. Would You mind changing it? Thanks Smiley!

2nd - I own X2650 and the only way I could get it to work was to download and install drivers from Lexmark.com

I chose the installer for RPM based systems and it works or at least partially works. Why partially? It installs. Detects the printer but... I have never bought an ink to the the printer after it run out when my fiance was using it under XP. I know that scanner works. Printing seems to be easy too but like I said I never tried it hence why - partially. Let us know does the printing works too.

Edit 1: This seams like the file You would need.

A) Extract it
B) Right click on the extracted SH file
C) Choose properties
D) Go to permissions tab
E) Make sure that "Is executable" tick is there (if its not - click in the box to make a tick)
F) Click OK
G) Click on SH file and follow the installer prompt

Edit 2: As far as I know the printer needs cups running to work. If You are not afraid to mess around the system a bit and to google setting it up a bit You will succeed.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Andy

P.S. tar version does not work btw.

Seen the avatar. Good man Yourself. About the installer - its not really rpm but its a sh script which contains multiple files inside including java and the printer driver. It installed here without any problems really so give it a go.

It installed one tool in here I am always forgetting its name... lexijtools run this from konsole and You will get access to the little administration panel for printer.

All I had to do is to install this file and xsane started seeing scanner straight away. Love it. One thing doh. If You press the "Preview" or "Scan" button in xsane - let it finish. Sometimes interrupting the scan process creates I/O error which only reboot can fix.

Andy

Btw. I took the link to the driver from here

I will say it again. No matter what You say about Lexmark i.e. expensive ink and stuff - they support Linux.

As you said i use
Printer Driver for RedHat Package Manager based distros
and it runs like a charme including the scandevice via sane.
so i can say full success on LEXMARK X2620
