I've been taking a look at the other PCLOS remasters and like what I see.

Is it a reasonable idea to have an arrangement like PCLOS1, PCLOS2, PCLOS3, PCLOS4, swap, home partitions and be able to hard boot into any particular flavor? I can't see why this idea shouldn't work.

I've been using PCLOS KDE exclusively for years and love it, but now I getting remaster curious Smiley

The parallel installation allows to compare the original remaster layout of each of them one by one.  On the other hand, why hard boot into different installations when the core of all of them is the same and only the desktop is different? One could just install any of them via the respective task-package and then select the desktop environment to play with from the gdm/kdm login screen.

No possibility of screw-ups/conflicts with that approach?

dixonpete:  I've got four desktops install with the task packages for about 6 months now.  So far all is running smooth and I can go to any desktop envirionment I choose.  Shouldn't be a problem for you.  Have fun!   Smiley

Using task-desktop (my preference) reduces duplication of files and effort (updates, account management, etc).

However, multiple /(root) partition installs will give the ability to test various software and/or configs while maintaining known good states to get back into (I'm satisfied with doing this in VMs)

It's all about choice, and how you want to use your system(s).
