I installed 2010 and it runs very slow.  Is a 2.5 GHz Celeron not fast enough?  Applications take a long time to load, response to mouse clicks is delayed, system monitor shows CPU pegged when doing just about anything.

Which version of 2010 is installed ........  KDE?

Ensure you have the optimum video driver installed, and disable desktop effects to see if it is that which is causing the problem.

How much RAM is installed in the PC?

512MB of RAM is on the low side for KDE .....

EDIT
You seem to have two video cards installed .......  is this correct?

Sorry, forgot to mention it's the gnome version.  I have 1 GB RAM.

Yes, I installed the ATI card because the on-board video was not working for me with some other distros, but it doesn't seem to make a difference with pclinuxos which one I use. They both have extremely poor video performance.

Try to disable the on-board card in the BIOS to prevent it from interfering.

After that check the correct driver is allocated to the ATi card, through PCC (Configure computer).

regards.

Nothing.

It may run as low as 400Mhz (or less) depending on settings.

It will ramp up in speed when required.

I think there's some movie about it (starting as old guy, and getting younger and younger...  Cheesy ),
but don't remember the title at the moment

------------

To get back on topic ( Roll Eyes  Tongue )

Can you run
Code:
top
in a shell, and look which process is taking so much of your CPU (and or RAM)?

And maybe also install a cpu-scaling program which you can manage graphically - and maybe try there to keep the processor on the highest possible value: look if it makes any difference

Using the command cat /proc/cpuinfo does it not say at what speed the cpu is set to in the bios? if that is the case ozarkbunnyboy's cpu is set too low.

when i use the command it never changes.
