I installed PCLOS 2010 today on a hard drive as the sole OS, following defaults in the installer.  When I restart the computer, I get this prompt:

grub rescue>

What do I do with that?

I am currently using the livecd to get online . . .

Some hardware info would be useful ......  how many HDDs in the PC?

You should be able to find redo-mbr in the menu of the livecd and running that may correct the problem.

I do not recall ever seeing   grub rescue>  message when booting.

When does it appear?  Before you get a chance to make a boot choice or after making the choice?

It's before.  Anyway, I have resolved this, just by reinstalling and changing to text-based GRUB, but now I have other problems :-(
