I have a brother mfc 240c i tried to see if would find it on its own but id did not so i went and downloaded the drivers and im having troubles installing it because kpackage in no longer available. So what would i use to install the drivers witch are rpm's any help would be great thanks.

i need to install the rpm drivers. I downloaded the drivers from the website. how would install the rpm packages?

I did this successfully last week ( with a 240C). It's quick when you know how.

Just use this post: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,55545.msg613185.html#msg613185

and substitute the correct file names. The example as written won't work because it's for a different printer..

ideally you should ask for this drivers to be added to the repos

this command i will write will make the installation unsupported but it seems that you need to do it so here it goes

i will suppose that you are using kde4 so open the folder where you have the file you downloaded(open home or dolphin), in there press the F4 key to load on dolphin a console

in that console write rpm -i theexactnameofthepackageyoudownloaded.rpm and enter(replace theexactname with the real name of the package, upercase if exist should be used when required)

the rpm should be installed and working

if it requires another package it will tell you which one and stop the install process so you will have to verify in synaptic that you are completely updated and if a library is required search it there, install it and try again

i don't know why this brother drivers are not on repos, probably for legal issues
