I had some great help in my other topic but i'm not sure if the person is around to assist but I got very far.

I created a bootable CD and USB from KDE MiniMe 2010.07

Why when booting from the USB and now I burned the .iso to a CD and it boots the same way as the USB but it sits at the black screen for hours? after I see the splash screen and loads to the PCLinuxOS screen then goes to a black screen then nothing. Maybe it s loading behind the scene? I actually just yesterday just went back to the PC and low and behold it was booted to the OS. 48 hours later. i'm not sure if it took 12, 24, 30 hours but it finally got there.

I restarted the PC and booted to the USB again but its been sitting here for 6 hours but hasn't gone into the OS

Do I need to select something else at the splash screen? Why is it taking so long?

thx appreciate it.

That seems to say the CD sits for hourse before going to the Desktop .....

This seems to say it is the USB drive that fails to boot properly ....

Maybe you could clarify please?

Correct I just came in this morning and the CD sat for hours and never got to the desktop.

Yes it seems to not boot properly. That one time it did get to the desltop all was fine but i'm not sure how long it took.

I don't think i'm doing anything wrong but hence my post.

Thanks

With some trial an error I seleced safeboot from the splash screen selection and it worked perfect from the Cd and USB

here's my original thread from last week

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=79602.0

It will boot you to the desktop (part way through booting you may be prompted for which keyboard country you want to use - it defaults to USA - the UK option is the one next to so just choose that)

This was the part I was not seeing but under safeboot it does prompt you for that.

OK, lets see if I have this right now .......

both CD and USB do not boot properly to the Desktop, except in one instance where the CD was left for hours.

So the problem is apparent when using both.

Lets deal with the CD first ........  how many of the boot options have you tried, and what has happened with each?

yes thank you for the help also  Grin I guess the default loads drivers and such but under safeboot it might not load drivers or anything extra. I tried the Live CD and default option with no luck then went to safeboot.

One thing is i'm connected to a Belkin switch so I have 3 PC's connected. Maybe the video / default PCLinuxOS didn't like this setup and could not display anything. I will try it with just a monitor and PC hooked up together and see what results I get.

I suspect it is just that the default is having some difficulty with some of your hardware ....  maybe misinterpreting it or such ...  so the safeboot works.

Quite possibly using a different boot code on the default boot would help .......  just add the word       vesa      to the default boot line and see how it behaves when you boot.

ok thx. I will try that since I'm trying the USB on an older Dell Optiplex 280 and the safeboot mode just hangs at the "kernal" loading screen <---- not sure the exact words but its the ........................................ first screen. I'm pretty busy today until I swap it out to another PC I'll just post this. I'm sure you understand what I mean. if not i'll post back.

"just add the word vesa to the default boot line "

What file would that be by chance? and can you give me an example? I never been in these files before.

Thanks

You can add it to the boot line at the selection page for the different boot options ......  maybe use one of the Function keys to display the boot line?

It is such a long time since I had to do this that I am not familiar with what key is involved.

Hope that helps you find it.
